The Effect of Self-Efficacy on Stress Level and Self-Esteem of University Students

Abstract
This study is conducted to verify the effect that university students¡¯ level of stress and self-esteem has on their self-efficacy. A total of 333 questionnaires taken in the Jeonbuk district from May 25th to June 12th, 2015 were analyzed.
The results showed significant differences in stress depending on gender and major, while there was a significant difference in self-esteem and self-efficacy depending on gender, major, and whether they were in their senior year or not. A correlation factor analysis showed that there was a significant correlation among self-efficacy and stress level, self-efficacy and self-esteem, stress level and self-esteem. A multiple regression analysis was conducted in order to find the factors affecting self-efficacy, showing that both self-esteem and stress level have a statistically significant positive effect on self-efficacy.
Therefore, in order to enhance the self-efficacy of university students, it is essential to prepare ways to relieve stress, and provide counselling or other programs to increase their self-esteem.
